What would the most ideal calling rifle scope be for $600 right now? My buddy is wondering it’s going on a 22-250 might shoot out to 350 yards. I told him to check out the new leupold vx5hd but he only wants to spend $600. What would be a really good option in his price range?

I would look at something in 2.5x10 or maybe 3x12 if only shooting out to 350 yds. By going with a lower power he will be able to get better glass for the same money. I have a vortex HS-T 4x16 and it is heavy, not my choice for a calling gun.

Brownell’s has the VX5HD 2x10-42 duplex on sale for $630 now. Big Supply Shop has them cheaper, but personally can’t recommend them because I haven’t done business with them. If he likes Leupold’s, have him check out 3rd Generation Shooting Supply. On their homepage they have a link for closeout discontinued Leupold scopes. I walk into their business often and they are good to go.

If your calling coyotes and shooting under 350 I too recommend something in the 2-10 range as you will more than likely have a lot more under 100 yards than the 350's. As for reticle a narrow duplex or #4 should work fine and be better in lower light conditions or heavier cover than the one shown above.

Nice, how are the turrets? Audible, firm clicks? Does it come with a chart of subtension measurements for the full power range? Zero stop? Warranty? Thanks. Optics are addicting.

You can get a VX5hd 2-10 shipped to your door for $664 at Optics Planet. ($699 minus 5% discount, zero tax, free shipping). That's only $64 over budget, worth skipping a few meals for.

If you could squeeze another 100 bucks out of your friend Cabela's has the Zeiss HD5 5-25x50 w/RZ800 reticle going on sale for $699.

I have that exact same scope on my 22-250.

Timing on Leupolds might be good. I noticed Midway USA has the vx3i and vx5hd’s for 10% off plus $100 gift certificate till the 7th of May.
Edit: Now they changed up the gift certificates deal to either $50,$75,or$100 depending on which model you buy.

You can only use one of those Midway promotions, not both.

^^^^ Well there you go again to not expect to much from MidwayUSA then! So basically there just giving the Leupold discount that Brownell’s and everyone else has.

Anything except vortex! I’ve had 5 scopes ranging from copperhead to vipers and all went back for repairs/replacement. They’re selling a $100 scope for $500. Of course they’ll give you a free replacement when their crap breaks. Initially they were awesome, now they’re just a cheap sold out to Taiwan company in it for the dollars. The razors gen 2 and I think they have a 3 now are sweet but everything g else is bologna.

A leupold or certain Burris or that zeiss are great ideas! All would be good in my opinion. There are tons of options in that price range that will do great. Just stay back from the vortex. Mine all had the springs, tracks, or lens break. The lens that broke was internal and the glue holding it in failed. One of those “just ain’t made like they used to be”
