Can't wait to get one of my girls out there this weekend. My oldest has killed a nice mature spring gobbler last two years but not on youth day. I might have to flip a coin to see which one goes Saturday.

That's my first gun my dad bought me when I was 9 years old. He and my uncle cut the stock down and made an adjustable soft comb on the stock and had the barrel cut off, ported and choke tubes installed. She used Dad's old reloads (1&3/8oz of copper 4's with 4756 in a paper federal hulls) on both. The first one was with another big gobbler strutting on the ridge above us and would not come down till a hen came in below putted around for a while then went over the hill putting all the way. That's when they messed up. They just couldn't resist coming into 35 steps when she put the biggest one down. Never dawned on me till I was running to it that I could have shot the other one and had a double! Didn't matter cause I was so excited for her!
The second one was around a big bowl from us and wouldn't come so we went to him. I knew where he was in a low gap so we snuck in as close as I felt comfortable. We hid at the stump of a blown down pine. I whispered in her ear that he would never gobble. I knew he would just pop up at the end of the pine. I hit the call and waited for an eternity (probably 20 seconds HAHA) and there he was. He popped his head up for a second then went back down, I whispered get ready right there, he'd pop back up. 5 seconds later there he was and BOOM! It was awesome! Nothing gets me more excited than knocking off them old Gobblers! Even better, we doubled on the first day. The first one that came in didn't work out for her so I shot him running away. Man what a show they put on for us!

First thing this morning climbed to top of hill to listen. Heard one gobble across the road then heard one behind us on the same hill. We got real close to wear he was roosted, got sat down and masked up. He flew down before we could even hit the call! I hit the call and he was there in no time! That happened fast! He had 1&5/16" spur and 11" beard. Then later this morning we were along the field trying to get one to gobble when the coyote popped out and I 22-250'd it.
