This is the May-American Rifleman, page 76.
This rifle is the CAR15. I was given one in 1969.
Of course mine was black. $149 per unit.
Mine had the triangle forearm.
I was given a comic book on how to fire and clean it.
After one week we got are M14's back.
It has not changed to much in 50 years.
It took me 40 years before I would buy one.

NOTICE: The trigger in the handle. That is how you charged the weapon.

Early version of the AR10? I thought the CAR15 was the very early cut down Commando version of the standard issue AR15 rifle.

I think Colt initially called all of their civilian semi-auto variants the CAR-15, short for "Colt Automatic Rifle." When people say CAR today, most do think of the Commando or XM177 variant. However, Colt never made one with a top charging handle. Those were all early ArmaLite rifles. The picture above, I believe is a Brownell's BRN-10A - a current reproduction of the older ArmaLite AR-10 pattern, and a mighty fine looking piece if I do say so myself.
