If you compared the XP50 to the XQ38 in the same way as above (at the XQ38's steps of magnification) I think the XP50 would show a bigger advantage. Because they start out closer in magnification the XP50 doesn't have as far to go in order to match magnifications so it should retain more resolution advantage.
I still don't know exactly how or why the 640 units do better in humid conditions but I keep reading that they do, and that might make as much or more difference in the actual view. Seems like I actually did read why that is once, but I've read so much stuff on thermal that I've forgotten now.
