Just curious if anyone has had any luck with 50 gr v-max's and H4895 in a 22-250. Max charge is quite different between the Hornady (35.4) and Hodgdon (36.5). As always, I plan on starting low and working up, but was just curious if anyone was using this combination at or near the hodgdon max with good success and no pressure signs. I plan on shooting them out of a Weatherby and a Browning....both 1:14 twist. I actually did an initial test working up from 33.8 to 35.3 in .3 increments and found a possible node at 34.7, but was curious if people were finding a slightly higher node without pressure. I don't have my velocities with me, but as I recall they were around 3500. Both Hornady and Hodgdon predict around 3800 at max.

Don't know if this helps but 34.5 of H4895 worked for me in a Weatherby Varminter shooting 52 grain Speer HPs. I am using the same load under 55 NBTs now in my Tikka now and it's even more accurate. Haven't check the velocity. Sounds like the same sweet spot for 50 to 55 grain bullets. I have been using WLR primers.

I think somewhere around 36 grains of Varget or RL15 with the 50 grainers worked real well also.

I know the charge weights are a bit different but 34.5gr of IMR 4895 was the sweet spot for mine with a 50gr and they were running around the 3800fps mark. I tried H4895 but mine didn't like it as much as the IMR.

I recently bought 8 lbs of H-4895 from Powder Valley, others too. I switch around a lot, 4895 covers a many bases, meters a bit better than IMR-4895 too. I realize they are not the same, but similar burn speed powders.
