Doesn't make me wonder anything. One of 3 things possible here.
1. They are blatantly inept at their job and should be fired
2. They were too tied up with their agenda on Trump and Russia.
3. They let this happen on purpose to further the media agenda.

What really makes me lean towards your #3 is that the Obama ATF allowed bump stocks to be legally sold...think about that for a moment. They allowed a mechanism that theoretically allows a semi-auto rifle to be fired at a full auto rate..something that should require a class 3 license.
And then someone allegedly uses one to commit mass murder, re-opening the whole gun control debate. I know bump stocks are garbage and such, but that is really suspect to me.
