Peel washer

When timing a quick detach type muzzle device do you use the peel washer supplied? Doesn't that introduce another component to fail?

Nope. If they supplied it, there was a reason they want you to use it. Many manufacturers use them because of the inherent tolerances in threads. Your muzzle device needs to be aligned as close to parallel to your muzzle centerline as possible. While you can use a crush washer to help align muzzle devices, they can cant your muzzle device slightly. Now on a short device like a muzzle brake or flash suppressor your not going to notice a problem and they are faster and easier to use. But with a longer device like a suppressor, being off even a fraction can result in a baffle strike. The error multiplies the longer the device is. So by using a peel washer or shims the attaching device can be squared up to the muzzle and keep the variance to a minimum.

If you use something other than what the manufacturer recommends, it can effect the warranty should the need aris.

if you're putting on a QD mount for a suppressor, dont forget to use some rockset to ensure that it doesnt come loose on you once you have it indexed.
