Ruger American Predator 22-250 load question.

My buddy received the above rifle for christmas and is looking for a starting point in his search for an accurate load. What are some of you guys shooting out of yours, i am no help to him as i don't own a 22-250.Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

ive used h380, benchmark and varget. h380 was good but i saw my groups open up in cold weather, used benchmark with decent results but my favorite is varget with a 55 grain vmax. good luck!

Never had any luck with H380 or Varget in the 22-250 even though a lot of guys like it. My best results were with xmr4064, imr4895 and RL15.

I've had good luck with H380 and IMR4064 with Sierra 52HPBT and 55FBSptz. bullets. If I had to choose one bullet to use it would be the 55gr Flat Base Sierra.

My Savage 22-250 likes Varget. I shoot 50 and 55grn Vmax. My sight in group for this season was .347 with 50grn Vmax and a max load of Varget.

my 22-250 has blistering speeds with Hybrid 100V and very accurate. It is not as temp stable as Varget or H4350. but the only thing that I have found faster is superformance but the superformance does not have the accuracy.

53gn Varmageddon
H100v
18" barrel
3800 fps.

Thats crazy fast for a 18".
My 22" with CFE223 will push the 53s to 3850 but im starting to see pressure.
Ill have to try 100V in my 22 and 26" now.

sorry I stand corrected, my barrel is 22". but I am sure it has more speed in it just don't want to get to a pressure where hornady brass starts sticking in this cheap TC compass. I need to work up a load with lapua brass. this powder does impressive things when it starts to get compressed. fwiw the 243 loves it also.

I am interested to hear feedback of what it does with a 26" barrel.

pm me if you want to know the recipe.

For years I’ve preferred IMR3031 and Varget. While you can push this this round, it does great even less than “blistering”

To bad you didn’t include, and I don’t know, the twist and barrel length. In Colorado, I would expect longer shots to be taken, 300 to 700 yards, and it’d be nice to push heavier bullets to buck the wind, but newer designed 55 gr slugs are so much better. Sierra, Hornady, Berger

But put good glass on it.

What's the plan with the rifle? You have great latitude with a fast twist. Deer you can go with Barnes bullets, targets you can launch longer 75 eld's, critters can take anything 50gr plus.

To the OP, I'm using CFE223 with 60gr Vmax for less than MOA out to 450 yards at 3630. Rifle is a Savage 12 FV bedded in a Bobby Hart stock, 12 twist 26" barrel. I also launch the 53gr under AR Comp. You just have to find what your rifle will like. 10" twist rifles can handle longer bullets.
