Has anyone Ackley'd the 6x45mm yet?

As the title asks, has anyone given the little 6x45mm (aka 6mm-223) the AI treatment yet? I'm thinking about doing it just to be able to more readily sperate 223 and 6x45 while cleaning brass and what not. Will be built on a Rem700 with barrel nut. I'm assuming I should probably just buy the reamer and have my barrel guy use it and ship it back with the barrel.

Any thoughts? Doubts? Feedback?

Thanks

Perfect, thanks Ritch. I'll go down that rabbit hole and see what info I can find. Looks like a good amount of it. I have dies and everything for the standard 6x45 but more than likely would use that anyway to form the brass from once fired 223, then get just a sizing die for the TCU.

It will make life easier for sorting brass post stainless cleaning.

Thanks again

If you go to accurateshooter, under the varmint and hunting forum there’s a thread called what stops an 80 TTSX. That guy shoots a 6x45 AI and can help you out

I’ve got a 6TCU 16.25” barrel for my TC Contender. I love that round. The improved shoulder gives it a bit more capacity but I really don’t know how much more velocity it equals to. According to my ballistic calculators, my 65 gr Vmax loaf is right at 3000fps out of that short barrel.

Try to get a hold of "KNOCKEMDOWN" on here. If I recall, he runs the 6TCU in a few barrel lengths and kills a bunch of stuff with it. A nice guy and good resource for you. Not sure if he has been on here in a while, but may check Snipershide as well if you are a member.

I shoot the "standard" version and am pleased with it out of my R700, but shoot 105gr's exclusively.

Thanks everyone. I've decided to just keep it easy and stick with the standard 6x45. Already have the dies, the new 223 Remington 700 just showed up, just need to get the barrel spun up. I am playing around with the 223 right now before tearing it apart for fun. Always love load projects.

I had a couple of 6TCU barrels, I still have a 6x45/6-223.
I really like the 6TCU, but one barrel being factory and the other being a custom with an unknown round count, the XP6x45 with a fair guess is not really a fair comparison.
None the less, the TC barrels were way more fickle than the XP. Accuracy was easy with a 55-70 grain bullet and H335.

I have a Win 70SA 223 that Bullberry rebarreled to 6TCU 18 yrs ago. I would never do a hunting barrel again with a cartridge that has a 40deg shoulder. Think of going down a road at 60mph and hitting a speed bump. That what happen when you try to work the bolt quickly with a round out of the magazine. As far as using the single shot pistol reamer, it leaves a 70BT a mile and half from the rifleling. They were designed to shoot 105/107gr bullets that were just held by the case 0.020" for more room for powder. Since I live in the Marxist/Socialist Peoples Republic of California, Comrad Jerry makes us uses LF Bullets. My gun is 1/12"(up to short 80grs jacked will work), I have to cut the tips off Nosler 55grLF so they make round holes at 200yrds.

It came down to me having the 6x45 dies already, so I ordered an X-Caliber 8 twist barrel spun up at 22", put 200 Starline brass through the die and cleaned up, and once the barrel gets here, it will be together real quick. I'll eventually order some 87gr Berger hunting VLD's, but right now I have 55gr ballistic silver tips, I ordered 1k of the 55gr Shots bullets, 70gr Varmageddons, 85gr Speer SPBT, and some 100gr seconds probably Interlock bullets.

So I'm ready to say the least.
