German Hunter Dies From Boar Attack

Sure hope he wasn’t using just a single shot bolt action and got gored. Seems a reliable semi auto would shine during a boar hunt. Not sure what the laws are in that area. RIP hunter.

This guy does ok with a bolt gun:

So there are no laws against semiautos in germany. I know several guys use the saur 303. However a lot of traditional German hunters look down soon semiautos. They are very very traditional there. The guys pushing the game(tribers)are more at danger then the one who are sitting and waiting. Its very unfortunate that this has happened. More often though it's someone's dog. But the tribejagds sure are fun.

A skilled bolt user doesn't lose all that much to a semi auto. Someone skilled with a bolt never loses the sight picture while following through or aquiring the next target when working the action, barely slows them down at all.
Loads of people don't know how to use one anymore.

It is amazing what a person can do with a bolt gun. The british had a drill called the "Mad Minute" shooting at a 4 foot square target at 300 yards with a standard Lee Enfield service rifle. The first record was set in 1908.

The first Mad Minute record was set by Sergeant Major Jesse Wallingford in 1908, scoring 36 hits on a 48 inch target at 300 yards (4.5 mils/ 15.3 moa).[

That's less than 2 seconds per HIT using a top loading bolt action.

The Norwegian shooters have a similar completion shooting a much smaller target at 220 yards in 50 seconds with bolt action rifles and scores are well into the 20's again about 2 seconds per shot. Again top loading bolt guns.
