What scope are you running for yotes on your AR

What scope do you run on your AR?
Hunting with AR's is new to me and I have primarily hunted big game with 3-9x40 and 4-16 power scopes.

What do you suggest for an AR in 223 for dogs?

Trijicon TR20-2 Accupoint 3-9x40 mildot retical. Sometimes I would like something with more power, either 2.5-12x or even 4-16x. But I like the weight of the 3-9x Accupoint and don't want to give that up. The illumination via fiber optic is pretty rad and part of the reason it's so lightweight.

I run a FLIR PRO PTS233 Thermal and a FLIR RS32 35mm Thermal for night time.
Day time i have a Vortex 2.5-10 PST on a 16" 223, Burris 4.5-14x40 on a 18" 223, Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 on a 20" 223, Vortex 1-6 Strike eagle on a 12.5" 6.8, Vortex PST 1-4 on a 16" 223.
Just all depends where i'm going hunting as to what rifle i take.

What terrain do you hunt in out there?
We have everything from 2000 acres farm land that is flat and wide open, 1000 acre cattle pastures, to thick woods and rolling hills. So it depends where im goin to what rifle im goin to take.

2.5-10x is by far my favorite [beeep]. I can use it for everything.

I run a 4-12x40mm Nikon Coyote Special on my .308 and I run a 2.5-10x42mm Nikon with BDC's on my 6.5 Grendel. I like the fast acquisition of the Coyote Special reticle on running coyotes. May not be the best for punching paper but it does just fine on fur.

I like to keep the weight down on my and try to go with a lighter weight scope when I can. My three have the following:

Christensen CA 15 - Zeiss Conquest w/Z800 Reticle 4.5x14x44

Dtech .204 - Swarovski Z3 with Ballistic Reticle - 4x12x50

Christensen CA 15 G2 0 Swarovski Z5 with Ballistic Reticle - 3.5x18x44

I use reasonable range variables for general purpose use. 3-9 or 2.5-10 typically. I set up to call on the lowest power on the premise that if one hangs up far enough out to need more, I'll have the time to turn it up, where as if one runs in close I won't have the time or freedom of movement to turn it down.

Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 & SHV F1 4-16x50mm, Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50mm & 4.5-30x50mm & Elite 4500 4.5-14x40mm, SigSauer Tango4 4-16x44mm, Vortex Viper HSLR FFP 6-24x50mm (not good for low light - FFP reticle is too fine), Leupold VX3 & VX3i 4.5-14x50mm, Burris XTR II 5-25x50mm. Ones I have but on which I would take a hard pass if I did it over again: Nikon Buckmaster SF 6-18x40mm & 4-12x40mm, Bushnell AR Optics 3-9x40mm, Vortex Diamondback 3-12x42.

The 4-16x or 4.5-14x are traditionally my favorite mag range scopes for hunting.

I think the main issues when it comes down to what scope to use is what kind of shot will you be taking, running or stationary, and then it comes down to looking through the glass. What one shooter finds as "clear" another would disagree with. As far as running vs. standing/stationary shot, that all depends on your stands. I prefer fast, easy to use reticles that I can use for running shots IF I have to. Sometimes reticles can get too busy and confuse some shooters.

Bottom line, you have to go and look through them to decide what you like/don't like.

It really depends on the application. I like a 4-12 or 4-16 for 300 yard shooting at things down to the size of a prairie dog. For closer range work or larger targets, especially movers like coyotes, I'd go to something with less magnification.

My precision AR currently wears a 4-16 Nikon M-223. I do not recommend this particular scope; it will be replaced. At max magnification the eye relieve is essentially zero.

We run 3 Leupold MarkAR scopes on our Rock Rivers, one 3-9x40 Mil-dot, and two 1.25-4x20 Fire-dots. Can’t brag enough how good this setup works for us. We have bagged 9 yotes so far this season and we finally got snow yesterday so it will only get better.
