How to remove the ejector pin on Howa bolt action?

I imagine the ejector pin has pressure on it. Do I have to depress the ejector and tap the pin holding the ejector? Any tips on this process? Rudy

When the pin comes out, the spring will send the ejector flying if your not ready for it. I've heard of people putting the bolt in a plastic bag to keep from losing the pin, spring and plunger.

Start by placing the bolt upright in a soft jawed vice, with the
pin perpendicular to vice jaws. Insert an empty case into the
end of the bolt using the extractor as a hinge. Pull the case
to position using inside of little finger. The spring under the
ejector pin now will be compressed. Using free thumb and index
finger of same hand, position punch and tap out the pin. Then
slowly release pressure on the empty case to allow the ejector
pin to rise.

If you can get help, it's a little easier to have them hold the
empty case while you tap out the pin.

The pin won't come out any easier either way. The ejector will fly farther, however, if it's depressed and not captured in some manner.
