Tom, how do the Apex and new trail models compare with regards to clarity (sharpness of the view and focus ability)?

Are there any new FLIR thermosights coming anytime soon?

The Apex's use the same core as the Trail XQ models so resolution will be the same which is 384X288. The Trail XP's have superior resolution at 640X480. All models have adjustable focus except for the Trail XQ30 which is fixed focus.

We are getting a handful on FLIR PTS233's but they're all spoken for. We won't have any available for immediate purchase for 30 days or maybe longer. Depends on how fast FLIR can build them and ship them.

Pulsar Trail 384 XQ38 2.1X-8.4X

Can this also be used as a scanner

already have a D740 gen 3 on a rifle
was thinking of using this aa a scanner then mount on a rifle when needed for another weapon

what kind of range for detecting and IDing can I expect

You could use if for a scanner but it wouldn't be ideal as the Field Of View is less that what we recommend which is 12 degrees. The Pulsar Trail XQ30 would fit the dual-role responsibilities better.

What kind of range can one expect from the XQ30 for detecting and ID ing
Looking for something to ID with at 2-300 yards

Even some of the $5K Thermal devices can't give proper ID at 300 yards without other supporting identification factors.

The Trail XQ30 can detect heat signatures out to 985 yards. But not all heat signatures. A coyote for example would be much closer to 300 yards for detection. With no other supporting identification factors, sight identification will be between 150-175 yards in optimal conditions. On our website, you'll find a spec sheet for all thermal devices on each product page. This is so you can compare units side by side.
