Two years ago my boy and I got a tag to shoot a sand hill crane.
That one is the one I got.
This time it just me... Long drive for one crane but there a lot of fun to hunt and very fine eating

Good luck. Looks like fun. Only shot one once by pure happenstance (didn't need a tag) while scouting for geese. What type of load do you use?

Last time I used Reloads, 1 1/2oz. #4 lead 3"
This year I'll try about the same but #5 Nickle plated

150 miles, got in to position before light.
Two minutes after sun up It was over.
The 870 loaded with some reloads of 36 gr Blue dot, an ounce and a half of nickel plated #5's
and a .669 extra full ported extended choke tube.
Absolutely hammered the crane at 50 yards ish.

Well done on your hunt. I see those around here but never thought about hunting them. Not even sure if you can. Probably some good eating.
