Crap. Just weighed my rig

My AR-10, .308 with a 16in SS fluted barrel, 15in hand guard, Nikon 4-12x40mm Coyote Special, MagPul MOE stock comes in at 13lbs with the suppressor on it. If I dare to put the bipod on it, it is 14.6lbs.

My coyote rifles are....

AR-15 SBR....8+ lbs.

22-250....13+ lbs.

AR-10.....14+ lbs.

I've got a 6.5 Creedmor coming next week that I anticipate being around 12 lbs.

Back in the 1960s and 1970s most of my varmint/predator rifles had sporter barrels and were quite lite to carry. I eventually purchased an M77V in .22-250 and since then most of my rifles have heavy barrels on them. It just seemed to me that when firing strings of shots at colony rodents the HB rifles seemed to stay accurate for more shots in a row than the pencil-barreled rifles.

My personal favorite for prairie dogs and an occasional coyote outing is one of my heaviest rifles. It was built on a Savage 12VLP action, sports a 24" super match grade Pac-Nor 1 in 11 twist barrel in #6 contour and fitted out with the suppressor, Harris 9-13" notched leg swivel bipod, sling, Nikon Monarch 3 with 6-24x50mm lens, Nikoplex reticle, side focus scope with a 4" sunshade. I have an aluminum mirage sheild on it, an ammo belt with 9 rounds in it, and magazine with 5 rounds plus one round in the chamber and it all weighs in at 14.7 pounds. I'm a 75 years old weakling and don't consider this rifle to be too heavy a burden. I also carry a backpack with lots of "stuff" in it and that adds another 15 plus pounds. It is a .204 Ruger and I'm shooting 39 gr. Sierra BlitzKing bullets coated with hBN. Here's the rifle out in a prairie dog patch on September 28, 2016, with one of its victims.

Here's a little closer view of the rifle:
