Went and tried some of the suggested loads. I got 3150 FPS with the 65gr Vmax and 3350fps with the 58gr Vmax both with 8208. Think I have issues with the brass the neck tension seam to be all over the place so time to trash the brass I've been shooting. Look like I need more speed to pull the 58s together.
These are 58s at 100 yds

This is a 15 shot group at 100 yds with the 58s

So I'm thinking it's the jerk behind the trigger so I got out my factory R15 carbine with an 18" barrel and collapsible stock, It has a JP trigger in it. 100yds

So on to new brass I shot H335 and the 58s yesterday they went 3460fps grouped like the others
A work in progress.

What p0wder charge did you have with the 58s? Mine was a 24" barrel and out velocities are 250fps different looking at my notes. I was running 31.5gr in SSA brass. This was a load Ritch and Greg both suggested

Same load as suggested 31.5 8208 I have a 20" BHW barrel. The H335 was 100 fps faster. I was told the 65s should be 3400fps too not so. In my rifle

Put this on your other post before I realized I clicked the wrong link.

The top speed Ive been able to get with the 65g vmax has been 3411 fps with 27g h4198, 3403 fps with 31g x8208, 3348 fps w/31g h335 that's w/a 22" bbl though.
Savage bolt build, 2.290" col.

Hmm I was 3300 with the 31.5 8208 and 65 vmaxs mine is a 22" barrel. I was seated at 2.290.

That might be your issue, only 1 thou neck tension. It took me forever it seemed to figure out the right bushing for my 243lbc. I would have decent core groups but wild fliers. Try about 3 thou and see what it does.

The neck thing is strange I have the suggested die set with a .269 bushing( came with the package I got ) my button in the die is .240 I checked the expander in a 6mm Remington die it is the same size. I have a Redding 6MM WOA sizing die and I ran a brass through it and the out side is .466 so that will give me .003 neck tension. Progress is made. What bushings are you guys running in your dies?
Thank you

Well my Lapua brass needs a 268 bushing and Hdy needs 266. I have a bunch of Norma that I bought on a clearance, and it needs a different one still. I can't remember but think it was 269. I necked down a couple to try but haven't loaded any as 200 of the other two will last me years and years.

Again this is the Grendel case on mine.

Depends on the brass. Neck thickness times 2 plus bullet diameter then minus how much tension you want. E.X. (.015×2) + .243 =.273 so if you want 0.003 neck tension you would want a .270 bushing.

The guys are right. For me that size works out but a bit more would be helpful for some brass. That is the one big downfall of the 6.8 case in that brass thickness is never consistent like the good Lapua stuff.

I was running .263 for R-P brass, .266 for SSA brass, .263 for hornady brass.
I have 8 bushings from .262 to .269, got tired of trying to figure whats best for each brand.
I stopped dinking around with bushings after I bought the CH4d 6spc dies and use them for all the brass mfgs, no issues any longer IMO.
Feels snug when seating bullets vs them feeling "loose" or just not tight enough tension.

CH4D told me six months back in September. They put me on the waiting list. I was hoping to have it around March 1st. (Sigh...)
