ACLU suing Indiana town over Christmas decorations
POSTED 8:02 AM, DECEMBER 12, 2016, BY GEORGE BROWN

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. — An Indiana town is being sued by the American Civil Liberties Union over part of its Christmas decorations.

Residents of the town of 2,000 people can’t remember a time when an illuminated cross didn’t sit atop a Christmas tree in the town square.

Now however, the ACLU and resident Joseph Tompkins want the cross removed according to WTTV-TV.

The suit alleges that the Latin cross “is the preeminent symbol of Christianity, representing the instrument of the crucifixion of Jesus.” So if the display is religious, the suit argues, it has no business on town property.

The documents go on to say that every day, Tompkins “is forced to come into direct and unwelcome contact” with the cross on top of the tree as he drives through town. This, it says, has caused him “irreparable harm,” which can only be remedied by taking the cross down and paying Tompkins monetary damages.

Mark Tompkins, who is related to Joe, disagrees with the lawsuit 100 percent.

“There’s a church on every corner here,” said Mark. “There’s a church on every corner. Is he offended by all the crosses?”

Residents vow they will fight to keep the cross.

I usually think of the ACLY as the Anti Christian league of the Underworld.

they never seem to have a problem with any other religion being active in public life.

Pretty sure the City isn't forcing him to drive that particular route through town, everyday, they don't have a case. Were I the judge, I'd award him damages of 1 cent per day. And, tell him to get over it.
