I was wondering if anyone with the 357 max has chrono speeds of a 20" barrel compared to a 16.5" barreled 357 max? im looking at getting a 16.5 barrel for its compactness but im not gona get one if its going to loose 200 fps in velocity using 180gr bullets which will be primarily what i will be using. Any info would be great.

Don't have the speed for a 20" but I just ran my 16 1/4" barrel over the V3 and got a average of 2044 for 6 shots with 23 grs 1680 (not quite max from Accurate arms data but close) and a 180xtp crimped in the back groove with a rem 7 1/2 primer in Rem brass

No but I will it's my favorite powder for magnum handguns but it's been a little scarce here lately, I just picked some up over the weekend what are you loading 22 gr's H110 and the Rem 180?

I have a 21" MGM 1-14 twist .357 max Contender. My two favorite loads consist of a healthy dose of 296 under either a 180 grain Hornady SSP (no longer available) or 185 gr gas checked hardcast Beartooth bullet. Both will go slightly over 2000 fps.

If Rich is getting 2044 from a 16.5", I can say you won't lose 200 dropping down from 20-16.4". I shoot a .357/44mag with 180's and get 1800-1900 depending upon the bullet with a 7.5" - and the case capacities aren't so dissimilar. Been. Long time since I shot I Max revolver, but I know it wasn't much slower than what I'm getting with my B&D - again, almost 10" shorter than Rich TC.

Ok great. I just ordered a 16.5" 1-16twist encore barrel with 5r rifling from MGM, with mike bellm doing the chambering. Should be nice brush gun
