ATT: 220 Swift owners

I just got myself a new Remington 700 VSSF in 220 Swift /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif and was looking for advice from fellow swift owners on loads.
What powders really shine in the Swift as well as bullet weights and types? This will be my main coyote rifle with the odd gopher and crow falling victim.
Any advice of proper cleaning of barrel or will it be the same as 22-250.
One last question is when you guys who do alot of varmint hunting where do you sight in at 100 yards? 1 inch high?

Cheers!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In my experience, the swift was made for a 55 grain bullet. I prefer the Nosler ballistic tips, but when these run out I will be trying the Sierra 55 Poly tips. A lot of powders will work but IMR 4064 is a standby of mine that I prefer. You can push lighter bullets to blistering speeds but a 55 gr running around 3800fps will tag them hard as far as you can hold it on them. I sight my swift to hit 2 inches high at 100 yds. It will hit a coyote out to about 350-400 yds with no hold over. These are my experiences with the swift. Others may differ.

Mine loves RL-15 with either the 50g, or 55 g bullet. But it also liked IMR 4064. Right now it's set up for woodchucks with the 50 V-Max Moly coated bullet. I sight it in 2" high at a hundred yards. I'm roughly 9" low at 400 with this sight in.

IMR 4064 has been the best performer for me. Sierra 52 grain BTHP match bullets at 3900 fps have given me excellent accuracy and kill like lightening strikes.

I have 4 Remington Swifts and they all love RL15 and 55gr V Maxes. I had also used H380 with good results but prefer the RL.

Hi,like RagnCajn said IMR 4064 is great and like always I got stick with my bud at Sierra and use their varmiter 55grs.
Thanks Clint.

The 55 Sierra Blitzking will not stabilize in a 1x14 Swift. I tried, shot splatter patterns, called Sierra, they said I would need a slower 1x12 at least to use the 55 Blitzking. 55 Nosler and VV N-550! Or the 50 Nosler and H-414!

Hi,like I said I use the Varminter 55 grs.and it works in mine.Here is a load for a 55 grs.Blitsking :

I also do infield testing on Serra's .224 and 6.5 mm cal.bullets.Thanks Clint.

The load i used the most in my Swift back in the 70's, was the Hornady 53 gr FB Match HP with 38 gr of IMR 4064, most people wouldn't believe the number of groudhogs that went to the happy hunting grounds from this load. The Swift I now own likes the Nosler 55 gr BT and Rel 19. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I would think that RL15 would give you better performance. That is what my buddy's best load is with the 55 Nosler. He had been a dedicated IMR4064 user too but the RL15 just clicked in his gun.

In my book the Swift is made for heavy bullets to go fast. 55's are the main stay for factory twist guns. I am not sure why they would say the twist is not right for 55's.

Two things I have noticed about the Swifts.

One: When shooting 55 gr poly tips they either like 55gr V-Max or 55gr Blitz Kings. Have not seen one yet that would shoot both well for some reason.

Two: IMR 4064 or RL-15 seems to do very well. However, some rifles seem to prefer one over the other for some reason.

You will love your Swift. It is the only way to go in my book.

I've noticed that the forum is moving slow, but 10 years slow?
