Beagles running fox and coyote seems to be only in the East

I have seen a few things about beagles be used for fox and coyote the reason behind it is that the Hunter's in the East do not have a lot of open land to hunt so they use beagles be case they don't push as hard as the big hounds so the game doe's leave the land as fast but run a lop in front of the dogs and the Hunter's can get ahead for a shot a lot of it makes sense but the only thing is I don't see how the dogs are not hurt bad or even killed i know around here coyote have killed dogs that would be about the size of a beagle but if anyone using them I would love to know how it is done
