Sage Rat, what is it?

I keep seeing these posts about all the sage rats in Oregon, and I think "I need to be there!". But what exactly is a sage rat, is that slang for another type of gopher,or what? I take it they're smaller than a pdog? Look about like Richardson's ground squirrels.

Any insite?

Another thing, am I the only one that thinks an African meerkat safari would be fun? I have watched a stupid documentary called Meerkat Manor, and all I can think about is what a blast that would be with a couple accurate AR's.

I got my answer via pm, wow, I gotta do that. Next summer, game on. I'll be stocking up my 22 supply, and maybe a 17hmr along with my cf's.

204AR, Check out some of the post about "sage rats".
There is some video, and still pics.
TT35,and myself have good feilds to shoot.Contact one of us when you wanna come play.
I filmed a bit more, for a few mins this am, should have it up in the next day or so. Duane

17HMR is awesome on ground squirrels. my record so far is 275 yards, on tape. but it cant be too windy, 17HMR's get pushed fairly good at long distance.

Thanks for the replies, lead magnet... absolutely!

So, how does the meerkat safari sound? Am I the only one so twisted as to want to go to africa to shoot a varmint?

Maybe call some hyena's or jackals or whatever predator they have. (No big cats, thanks anyway.)

204...look up Cedarville squirrel shoot up in Modoc County CA.
They have it every march for anyone who shows up to shoot those rats for a solid week, bbq/silent auction/drawing at the end of the week at the fairgrounds. Cedarville chamber of commerce puts it on.
I did it for over 14 years before I moved out of CA.
All you have to do is contact a farmer who is wanting them shot & that's all of them.
You can get info online.
Its a long drive for sage rats 1100 miles from my place.
