Turkey hunting out west

I'm planning on doing a diy trip to a coin states next year, texas, oklahoma, nebraska, are on the list.

How easy is it to gain permission to turkey hunt, or should I focus primarily on public land

All three of those states have very little public ground-less than 5%. Don't know about OK or NE, but TX is pretty much strictly pay as you go on private.

You shouldn't have much of a problem getting private property in NE.

It's a bit further, but don't overlook New Mexico. Spring turkey tags are available over the counter with a bag limit of two toms. Lots of public land available for your hunting pleasure.
