Tonight I went back to the field where 2 reds got away from me this past Saturday night.
I set the call out and backed up into a shadow. I took one last look with my headlamp and I saw eyes about 150 yards out just inside the wood line. I turned on the scope and I could see that it was a red fox standing on a log looking in my direction.
The wind was right, I was in a shadow so I just sat still for 4-5 minutes and waited. Then I turned on the FLIR and turned on the call to Vole Squeaks. Within seconds he came running straight to the call. I turned the scope back on and found him coming in. He got to within maybe 40 yards and I squeaked at him to make him stop. He ignored me and ran straight up to the call. Then he figured out something was wrong and he turned and ran away at full speed. I kept squeaking at him and he finally stopped at about 85-90 yards. He shouldn't have done that. I pulled the trigger, DRT.
