Powder suggestions for 22-250?

I will be shooting Sierra 55 grain SPBT (1365). I don't need to push them super fast (hoping to get 3800-3900) but want them accurate

Something in the Varget range is where I'd look. There are the usual ones right in that ballpark. I've seen H-380 a lot on the shelves lately too.

Hodgdon H414 & H380, Ramshot Big Game, Win 760 Those would be some of the more popular and possible available powders.

3,800 - 3,900 fps is pushing a 55 pretty hard in a 22-250.

#1 Varget but is difficult to obtain right now.

#2 IMR 4064

# IMR 4895

Varget will not give you the velocity as will H4895 and you are asking a lot to try an get (3800-3900 ) out of a 22-250 You will have to have a 26" barrel to get the better velocities. Accuracy is what I go for, and many times backing off Maximun a little gives me better accuracy.
As was quoted to you earlier,, H380 and H4895 should perform for you. Nothing wrong with Varget if you can live with lower velocities.
If you drop down to a 53 grain Like the Hornady you can obtain 3800 easier.

I just wanted to obtain that velocity because the gun was sighted in with factory ammo that shoots 3850 and I wanted the same POI between rounds.

I run H4895 with 52 gr Amax, from a 26 in barrel and a max book load I'm averaging 3795-3805 accross my chrony. I am currently working up a load with Alliant Ar-Comp which is supposed to produce higher velocities but I have not ran it accross the chronograph yet. I think it was Venatic here on the boards that turned me on to it, perhaps he can throw his 2 cents in here.

Winchester 760 and H414 will give you the very highest velocity with extreme accuracy with the 55's, somewhere in the 3750-3850 are depending on your barrel and it's length.

If you live in cold weather, try H4350 with winchester primers.

I know that its not a 55 but I run the 52s out of a 26" barrel somewhere around the 3700 area if I remember correctly and its still a fairly mild load, I can't recall the exact charge.

Since I've been loading the .22-250 I've tried 2 powders, H380 and Varget. H380 is a great powder but has one problem, I didn't like the way the POI changed with the temps as winter approached. That doesn't happen with Varget, same POI all year. Over a chrony I see just under 3700 fps shooting the Sierra 52 gr match.

I'm probably going to try H4895 next though as everyone swears by it.

One thing I won't do with the .22-250 is shoot reduced loads. One of my friends tried and the bullets keyhole. That's the downside of a 14" twist. This cartridge needs velocity to perform with bullets of 52 to 55 gr. Also found the best accuracy at higher velocity.

3800-3900fps with 55gr out of a 22-250 is pretty much, super fast.

Rl-17 and Hodgdon Hybrid 100v will get you very close. I run the 53gr V-max at 3900fps from a 26" tube with either of those powders, and Lapua cases.

GREAT tip,Smokeless!!!!

Ever try a 22/250 AI with those powders? Sounds like I need to get busy with it in the AI as I have both powders...

I started shooting that bullet last year out of my 250 very accurate. Imr 4064 is the powder that I'm running now it was the only one that I would see on the shelf during the shortage. So I went with it. Mine are running 3650 fps over the chrony. Rel 15 is what I was running before with 52 match kings
