Got out one more time before bow season cranks up here.
Was a beautiful morning in the woods.
Cool start and warm at exit, but no yotes.
Setup decoy and caller near where two game paths crossed then I backed of about 30 yards down wind.
Played pup distress, 3 min delay, mouse squeaks, 3 min delay, then pup frenzy, repeated several times.
Near the end of the first pup frenzy a large raccoon leaped sidewise behind the e-caller then took off into the woods.
It seemed strange.
Then ~10 minutes later, three small raccoons, ½ sized, cautiously eased around the animated decoy trying to figure out what to do with it.
Tired of that that headed straight for me.
Guess my camo was also curious.
I hissed at them like I do house cats and they scampered off.
That was the only action this AM.
Then when I gathered up the decoy and caller to leave, I saw what had happened.
The momma raccoon had attacked the caller, knocking it over and collapsing one of the speakers.
Ironically, pup frenzy timed out after her attack, so she probably thought she killed it !!
