Because there's nothing as on topic as a 20 year old movie!
Jeff daniels plays harry in the movie speed. Harry is an intelligent man, can disarm bombs by description and is solely responsible on keeping keanu reeves alive. But we shouldn't blame him for that. Unfortunately harry gets blown up and keanu is unleashed on the world unchecked.
But harry isnt killed in the explosion, he survived with severe mental injury and later meets lloyd christmas. Lloyd, also a thin dark haired man is confused by the permanently addled harry as a long term friend and goes on to have the life pictured in dumb and dumber. Harrys earlier life causes him to take care of those with problems and attempt to solve them but he is unable to due to the mental injury.
Both harrys in both movies, same character.
