The communists want to take our guns away? Are you sure this isn't a spoof? Luckily no hunting gun ever killed anyone.

how people don't see that they are doing and saying anything they can to make it so that the government runs everything is beyond me..

How you can sit in line at the DMV, Social Security, or any other place, and not think to yourself this is a mess, is truely astonding..

They can't even run the post office without loosing money, how in the world do you think the Healthcare is going to turn out????? Oh, ya it's going to be just like the VA and there isn't a thing you can do about it.. Except if you are one of them, or rich,(see first option)

Why people support people that use them is beyond reason.

Don't trust a democrat (or any politician) with your gun rights (or any rights). If you do, they'll stick it to you in a heart beat.

If i were a political analyst I'd have a hand held mute button at all times. If you choose to lecture an unuasked tangent instead of answer a question, mute. Want to try again? No? Mute. This times a charm...

I'm not sure which party is worse right on guns actually. Reagan has the 1986 NFA hanging on him. Yet people think he's all about freedom and democracy. Look what he signed in CA regarding gun bans, after black protestors started open carrying. The guy was a huge democrat back in the day. Then Clinton has the background check and AWB. But at least the AWB expired. Not sure why the NRA was ever for the background check scam. This is exactly why we can't give even a fraction of an inch on anymore laws. If it was rely just about lives they would focus on medical mistakes. Hundreds of thousands die every year of prescriptions being written wrong, or mixing drugs. They know guns are the only thing that can stop a government from total control of the citizenry. Reagan looks worse as time goes on as far as the loss of good manufacturing jobs goes. The government is controlled by a small few actually. Money will make things come or go away. It's real simple when you think about it. I do like the idea of a mute button if they can't follow simple commands and answer the direct question. We put up with to much. Being a politician should be a miserable job, not a dream job for sociopaths. And that what we have. A bunch of sociopaths. Who spends many millions to make a few hundred thousand? These people are puppets for their backers. We are less free every year, from the people we elect.

regan only looks worse if you read liberal media accounts of history. I just have to look at the 18+% unelployment when he took office, and then look at the 15+% interest rates to buy a home. Inflation from the Carter years was so bad that when you bought a home, it was a negative ammoratization loan where you owed more each month. There was a point where the interest rate on the 30yr T bill was over 18% which is astounding since today it's like 1% at best. All the printing and gimmicks are going to come due and the dems don't care and try very hard to tell you what caused it rather than looking at the real cause. We have twice as many dollar bills floating out there as we did in 2008, with little inflation.. That day is coming. It's just a matter of time. The best we could hope for is someone that would come in and actually do something to create a boom. Then while that is happening, start burning slowly the 85billion the feds and Obama have been printing out of thin air each month. The flood of money could make it easier to make the whole thing work, so long as they get out of the way, stop giving h1B visa's, and compete on the global market, which then means they need to get rid of the extra money as the economy grows.

I bet the same history sources say FDR was great for the country?

To your point, it's a slippery slope and with the advantage of 30 years of seeing how it played out, yes it is easy to say they shouldn't have done that. But, remember that he had a democrat controled Senate and Congress. One that actually fought back and did everything they could to stop him. SO, some of the time he had to cave on one issue to get another. I try all kinds of negiotations all the time with my Wife. Sometimes it works out, sometimes i thought i got a good deal and it later turns out to not be the case. Live and learn.

yeah, someone rewrote some history there.

reagan did not ban full auto weapons, not one.

bush 41 did. he did it by executive order & congress followed up & that was done in such a way as to amend the 1986 FOA law. That banning by bush is part of what cost him reelection in 92, as gun owners were seriously pissed at him for it.

I will add that it was a democrat party controlled congress that did that & they did it very quietly, as an amendment to a bill. They avoided the publicity of having it brought out & fought over in the open.

I am always amazed at the differences between history books from pre 1975 and post 2000, it's litterally shocking how the liberals have invaded the publishers and book writers and changed hitory books.

It's not a wonder why we think kids of today are stupid, given the material they are being fed.

No true conservative is going to tell you that Bush (any of them) are anything more than a Rhino. So if gun laws were passed then, I get it.

President Ronald Reagan will forever be remembered fondly by Second Amendment supporters, many of who are among the American conservatives who consider Reagan a poster child of modern conservatism. But words and actions of Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, left behind a mixed record on gun rights.

His presidential administration did not bring about any new gun control laws of significance.
However, in his post-presidency, Reagan cast his support to a pair of critical gun control measures in the 1990s: 1993’s Brady Bill and 1994’s Assault Weapons Ban.

Reagan: The Pro Gun Candidate

Ronald Reagan entered the 1980 presidential campaign as a known supporter of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. While gun rights wouldn’t be a primary issue in presidential politics for another decade, the issue was being pushed to the forefront of the American political scene by those, as Reagan wrote in a 1975 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine, “who say that gun control is an idea whose time has come.” The Gun Control Act of 1968 was still a relatively fresh issue, and U.S. Attorney General Edward H. Levi had proposed outlawing guns in areas with high crime rates.

In his Guns & Ammo column, Reagan left little doubt about his stance on the Second Amendment, writing: “In my opinion, proposals to outlaw or confiscate guns are simply unrealistic panacea.”
Reagan’s stance was that violent crime would never be eliminated, with or without gun control.
Instead, he said, efforts to curb crime should target those who misuse guns, similarly to the way laws target those who use an automobile feloniously or recklessly. Saying the Second Amendment “leaves little, if any, leeway for the gun control advocate,” he added that “the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms must not be infringed if liberty in America is to survive.”
Firearm Owners Protection Act

The lone piece of significant legislation related to gun rights during the Reagan administration was the Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986. Signed into law by Reagan on May 19, 1986, the legislation amended the Gun Control Act of 1968 by repealing parts of the original act that were deemed by studies to be unconstitutional.

The National Rifle Association and other pro gun groups lobbied for passage of the legislation, and it was generally considered favorable for gun owners. Among other things, the act made it easier to transport long rifles across the United States, ended federal records-keeping on ammunition sales and prohibited the prosecution of someone passing through areas with strict gun control with firearms in their vehicle, so long as the gun were properly stored.

However, the act also contained a provision banning the ownership of any fully automatic firearms not registered by May 19, 1986. That provision was slipped into the legislation as an 11th hour amendment by Rep. William J. Hughes, a New Jersey Democrat. Reagan has been criticized by some gun owners for signing legislation containing the Hughes amendment.

and that is incorrect. I actually wrote a letter to bush & fedex'd it to the white house in opposition of his EO banning full auto guns. There was a huge discussion on loacl talk radio about his proposed EO, with the talk show host -Les Jamison on 1510 WLAC in Nashville, a transplanted Brit- supporting it & pretty much all callers to the show opposing it.

Had reagan already banned them, there would have been no need to do so. That act was amended later to include the ban.

And the guns were not banned as of 1986, they banned if they had not been made or imported by september of 1989.

I may not remember everything, but I do remember that crap.

My bad I get him and hw bush mixed up. Reagan is better than what we have now, but still I'm not a fan of gov. Somehow I always have a May 86 ban in my mind. Wait it was Reagan, quit making stuff up Stu. Your memory obviously stinks on this.

And Reagan did ban open carry as governor in 1967 in CA. It's amazing how people give him a slide like he was a saint. He through his lost mind behind the Brady bill too. So stop acting like he wasn't for banning guns. Read more than just a book written by a Reagan shill. The 1986 bill stopped new machine gun builds, unless they are demos. Reagan was a gun banner. No matter who slipped what in where. He shoulda read the bill but maybe he was like nancy pelosi in that. Not blame Hughes. Reagan coulda vetoed it but he didn't. Now stop rewriting history yourself. Reagan said he never met a deficit he didn't like. You guys listen to to much select talk radio. Research what he did sign. It's the best way to see what a person believes. He sold missles to Iran also. Now Obama gives em the nuke. Reagan supported higher taxes also. Maybe you need to pick up a book once in a while. Instead of making up fables of great Ronnie from 35 years ago. You can't remember what you ate last week, but you gonna tell me about Reagan wasn't a gun grabber. Your credibility is thrown down a few notches on that one guys. Bush had the 1989 import ban. Reagan was most certain a gun grabber. No way to change history. And he supported even harsher bans after he left office.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulford_Act
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/01/...rising-details/

To summarize:

As Gov. of California, Reagan signed the Mulford Act which prohibited the carrying of firearms on your person, in your vehicle and in any public place.
As Gov. of Cal. Reagan signed off on a 15-day waiting period for guns.
As president he signed into law a ban on ownership of fully automatic rifles.
After leaving the presidency he supported the Brady Bill which provided for a 7-day waiting period for guns.
In 1994 he wrote Congress supporting a ban on assault rifles.

if reagan had banned full autos in 1986, then why did bush 41 issue an EO banning tham during his term?

the left likes to make fun of reagan having alzheimers & often claim that it must have been effecting him while in office, but they love to credit him with supporting brady & the 1994 gun ban, both long after he left office & was in fact suffering from the disease.

Bush signed the 1989 import ban. You know that idea it needs sporting purpose. Reagan banned any new machine guns from May 1986. It's why you can only buy machine guns that were in circulation, and why they are $50,000 now. The 1994 AWB probably wouldn't of passed without reagans help. It passed by 2 votes. And 2 people were against it until Reagan got ahold of them. One was Klug from WI. I know you like to fondly remember Ronnie, but to think he wasn't a gun grabber is plain foolish. He signed many laws still on the books that outlawed guns and carry. That's no guy I consider a hero to freedom. Blindly following a party will have you to not know the truth. I trust nobody. All government is about control.

Reagan gave how many illegals citizenship? And before he "fixed" the economy at least savings accounts earned respectable interest. Let's not act like he was perfect. Critical thinking skills are sorely needed today, more than ever. Reagan was a gun grabber. There is no way around it. By laws he signed, and laws he promoted after he left office. And him signing the Mulford act is basically treason. Imagine if Obama signed something like that. What would you say? I'm curious.

Stu, just because you wrote a letter doesn't mean you know what you're talking about. Reagan banned all new manufacturing of machine guns after May 1986, for private ownership. It's just a fact. I'm not trying to be confrontational, but you are missing some facts. And this is why I don't idolize politicians. It clouds your view of them. Both while in office and out of office, Reagan went after legal gun owners. Bush the elder went after the import ban in 89
