I just started loading for my savage axis .308win with 165gr hornady sst bullets and H4895. anybody have load suggestions for the .308? I shot it today and it shot decent with 38.5gr and 39.5gr so I was plaaning on working up by .2gr from 38.5 to 39.5. Im also using the federal 210m primers

I'm working on a new to me 308 as we speak. I usually use 4064,varget or Rel 15 but today, I'm trying 8208 with a 155 A-Max and 168 SMK. Never tried the loads your using but will stay tuned for results.

my expierence was with them over varget, but it was also in a gas gun.

i could get them to shoot just under 3/4" but that was about it.

dont have velocity's, didnt have my chrono then. have since switched to shooting the amax since that barrel seems happier with it.

I use 4064 with the game king. I just use the accuracy load out of the sierra manual. My little browning blr shoots inch and quarter with it.

You still have a lot of headroom for your load. Hodgson shows 43.5 as max for H4895 and a 165 Hornady. My best accuracy was around 42.0-42.5 grains.

hornady's 9th shows it as a middle of the road load.

min on the 165sst is 32.6 max 44.0

Also working on this combo for AR and bolt, pyscodog let us know how it goes.. tia

I loaded 46 gr. Varget with the 165 SSTs and Fed 210s.

I have 2 308s. Target/Tactical rifle runs Varget and/or R15 with 175 SMKs.

Hunting rifle mostly 150 Accubonds and IMR4895.

I let both rifles tell me what they like.

4064 is another good 308 powder. But I haven't loaded it in a 308 for some time. Only 243s now.

I have some TAC and 8208 here, but never tried them in my 308s. not sure if I ever will, at this point. Both rifles shoot extremely accurately.

Let us know how she shoots........

I tried some varget at 44.5gr and got a nice 3/4" group with the SST's at 100 yards. I'm continuing to work up with a couple different powders but as of right now I believe I will be sticking with the varget

found a load and tried it and it worked great! 42.0gr of varget, 210m primer, seated 2.750" and lightly crimped. I'm sure if I was a better shooter I could get it even tighter but this is great! I can cover it with a nickle.
