Not a long story,as this was a simple, short hunt.
Buddy made a 3 hour drive across state to make 2 stands with me Wednesday before dark. First stand was only about 200 yards from the road, and we called it for 25 minutes without a thing.
Second stand was about 4 miles away, on a piece of private ground I have on a river bed.
I walked down to the river, set my call on the ice, went back to sit down as my partner walked about 40 yards to my left to watch down the river as well as our back door. Well, before he could sit down, I looked over and saw this 33 lb male standing on the ice. I lip squeaked to give Matt a heads up, and he saw him and sat down.
Well, I turned on the video camera, and started in pup distress. The coyote heard it, but wasnt acting like he would come running. I looked at the camera and saw the battery light blinking red(0 degree temps) so I took the shot, my longest yet at over 200 yards. Aimed at the top of his back, and dropped about 6 inches or more into his lower chest.
We tracked him to the weeds, and found him piled up 30 yards farther.
Not a long hunt, but it worked out just fine.
