Couldn't figure out what to do...

Wednesday night. We just finished a set, loading gear in truck, when a pack of coyotes sound off about 1/2-3/4 mile away. We drove to the north of them and set up in a field. Did some howling, and a pack sounds off just north of our location maybe 1/2 mile away. We figured they had already moved past our location while we were on the road. Tried a bunch of sounds...no luck. Packing up gear, another pack sounds off from the south, the same location we first heard. Set back up, tried all kinds of sounds...nothing.
We were apparently set up about halfway between two packs of coyotes and didn't see a thing.
Anybody got any suggestions?

Get closer to one pack or the other, you may have been right on the territorial boundary. They may be less likely to defend a boundary than they would if you were deeper into one of the pack's home turf. If you see someone you don't know walking down the road in front of your house you may just look to see who it is, but from a distance and not really go see who it is. If someone you don't know starts making noise on your front porch or you hear an unknown voice start talking in your house, all [beeep] is going to break loose and you're going to investigate immediately. I wouldn't use a whole bunch of sounds if you know they are there. Just one distress and if nothing shows, a howl then a bark and howl..if nothing after 5 minutes hit pup distress. If nothing shows but they sound off or challenge you and still don't show, come back another night and don't use distress or any howls. Just get in close to where you think they are and let loose with pup distress, if you are close enough to their living room be ready from the second you hit the button on the remote.

Thanks guys, sounds like a much better decision than leaving!! Guess we need to get permission from the other landowners, both north and south, so we can try those suggestions. Thanks!!
