To shoot or not to

I'm curious as to how you can learn to shoot a running coyote if you never fire a shot? When tracking coyote down with fresh snowfall for 2 miles and he jumps - I can shoot .... or maybe I should just turn around and head back to the truck. Are coyotes ever wounded while presenting standing shots ..all the time.

I've passed on two or three in the last 3 weeks due to this exact scenario. I wasn't sure how far out they were and without that information I didn't take the shot. You've got a better chance calling in a coyote again that you don't shoot at than you do one that was shot at and missed. If they came in once they'll come in again unless they have experienced some sort of activity that wasn't to their liking such as a gun shot.

The shots that haunt me are the two I missed that were simply way too close to miss and I did just that. Hopefully I can get them one day in the future.
