I was going to go to the rez and go hunting this weekend but when I went to get my permit they said they no longer sold predator permits.the girl was nice and called and was told the only place is at the game and fish office but they are never open.I'm pissed not sure how or if I will ever get to hunt there anymore.if anyone has any advice I would love to find out how to get my permit.

I know that they don't allow predator hunting during their Elk Seasons. I also know that they are only authorized to issue so many permits in a given time to maintain low hunter densities. My guess is that this late in the year, they have issued all non-member permits.

If I am not mistaken, didn't they also ban electronic callers on the rez?

Yes, I remembered right.

Quote:predators can be hunted all year by both Tribal members and non-members except during the Trophy Elk Hunts. Non-members can purchase a hunting permit for $10.00/day (a habitat stamp is also required) and tribal members can hunt predators with their General Annual Hunting License (a habitat stamp is also required). Electronic calls are illegal. Predator’s populations are not directly managed by the Department. We did not conduct questionnaires to predator hunters.

Looks like the trophy elk period has passed.

Most of the Indian reservations in AZ will have a webpage with a link to their tribal fish and wildlife department. AZ has several Indian reservations, each one is a sovereign nation, so each of them can have different hunting regulations.

As far as I know, nobody is calling predators on the SC rez anymore because of the new regs. No e-callers -- have heard that was because somebody was trying to call an elk w/ an e-caller claiming they were after predators -- maybe just a rumor, don't know for sure. Hand calls only.

Add to that the problem of only purchasing your predator permit at the main SC Wildlife Rec Office (not allowed to purchase at any businesses here in Globe) in Peridot -- which opens at 8?? M-F? So sit around and wait for a permit and miss the best time of day to call? Or drive out the day before to purchase a permit?? Office not open on weekends when most hunters would or could go?

You know, one year (about 10 yrs ago?) Predator Masters had their big annual get-together hunt on the San Carlos. The Director gave a big welcoming speech. Lots of people spending lots of money to hunt, etc. A lot has changed since that time. . . . .
Anyway, Lex you will be fighting an uphill battle trying to figure out how to be legal with the new regs and stipulations for predator hunters on the San Carlos. Like you -- and apparently most hunters -- I won't be hunting for predators there anymore. Bob C., Globe, Az

Yeah they make it very hard to be legal and have fun.the truth is the government give them so much money and the casino water and other things they have to do nothing for alot of money.I wish they would do a year permit I would be getting one.I like using my FoxPro caller but that would not stop me from calling there.

Predator masters had our annual get together there for a few years. The first few were centred in Globe, then we moved to the casino on the rez.
Hunting the rez was enjoyable to me as that time of year I'm up to my nose in snow and sub freezing weather in Alberta. The rez allowed a guy to hunt from the timber up high to the desert down low. We did kill a few coyotes and a a couple of cougar[lions] over the years, but there sure was a lot of hunting pressure and broken glass to contend with.

The service etc. at the casino deteriorated and we moved to New Mexico. The upcoming hunt has been moved to Tuscon, and I'm looking forward to hunting AZ. again.

I gave up on them..
They don't show up on time, or sometimes at all.. They can't answer questions, and it's a challenge to deal with them.

They are not the only ones. I have had a real challenge in the past with several of the tribes..
Not to mention the challenges i have when dealing with the people out there.

There has been more than a few times where i have drunks on the Navajo wondering down dirt roads jump in the truck and demand a ride somewhere.(I just drive to the next stand, and go hunt, but it becomes a pain) The hunting is good, but sometimes not worth the issues. I usually try and just keep my distance.
