Favorite Broadhead?

I have been using Thunderhead 100 gr. for my compound for many years, and 125 gr. Thunderheads for the crossbow. These broadheads have always given me good accuracy and performance.

My son uses Thunderheads as well.

Magnus stinger 4 blade. Best shootin broadhead I've ever shot. Just started usin them this year so haven't shot anythin with them yet. Out of the package they're also the sharpest broadhead I've shot.

This buck is lying just how I found him when shot Wednesday mornin'.

Bolt was broken and hanging out, kinda like it hit and bounced back.

Well, I got my meat from butcher today. I warned him that a broadhead may be stuck in shoulder. It was. Here is what I found amongst my packages of meat..........

It seems to have opened perfectly. I gotta clean it up, as it wont close right now. And another as well. 100gr Spitfire Max Crossbow head...........

I now shoot this bow:

I used to shoot this older Hunters (Tenpoint) bow:

The newer bow is faster by 30-40fps. I have had no issues with the Spifire 100Max Crossbow broadheads.

However, I almost never bought another Spitfire again after this "standard" Spitfire 100 failed to open when shot with my old crossbow. The deer still died after going 75 yds. through some really thick terrain...........

Only recently did I find out that they make standard Spitfire heads, and crossbow specific Spitfire heads. They take different amounts of pressure to deploy.

Just thought I'd share...........

2muchgun : I enjoyed the pics and the descriptions . I like to see what works for others and what hasn't . I like thunderheads and always had good luck with them , unfortunately for some reason the marketing here north if the 49 went astray . Not many stock them. Good to see everyone's favorites. I'm considering on trying mechanicals next year but really have no complaints on the Strikers yet.
I sure would like to be able to run one thru a big mule buck yet this year but less then two weeks left . Between work and a tradgedy in the family looks like it will be unlikely to get out much.

Just getting into this whole bow hunting thing. Tags here are like hens teeth and I'll probably stick with the rifle unless I can draw a bull elk archery tag. Wasn't sure what broadhead to try so I picked up a dozen or so swhackers 1 3/4" cut 100 gr to try out if I get the opportunity. Guess time will tell if I chose wisely or not.

A friend of mine sent me a text today that he lost an 8 point this weekend using the Swacker mechanical for what that is worth. I have heard a lot of people like the Swacker though.

wow... every experience that I have had with a shwacker has been great. Of course now I have to knock on wood but I have used them on mulies, black bear and javelina with very quick deaths in every case. 15 yds was the closest and 73 the longest.

Also, I should note that they are the 125 gr, 2.25 in cut

I've never used a Shwacker. But I seem to have heard plenty of negative reports on them. Can't say. Noo real experience.

If for some reason I stopped using the Spitfires in my crossbow, od Thunderheads in my bow, Slick Tricks or Muzzys would be the first place I would turn.....

Ken
Nice buck! I havent been checking the bowhunting forums since I'm out of commission for bowhunting this year due to a torn bicep, hopefully I can get out later in the season with the Xbow.
As far as broadheads, Montecs from my compounds and Thunderhead 100's from my Tenpoint if I'm shooting a stick and string 125gr Snuffers

I've got to back you up on the Slick Tricks. They are affordable enough plus all steel and durable on top of a very effective design & flying like my field points. Before ST's it was pretty much Muzzys for me since they are also affordable with pretty durable & effective design. Lots of good choices out there these days. But the ST's are working for me for now. We aren't allowed mech's here in Oregon.
