A lot of bears have been called with mouth calls. Personally, I'd want a hunting partner watching the backdoor, and he'd have to see real well. Since black bears climb, it wouldn't do any good to be in a tree stand.
I've just purchased a mouth call from Nordik Predator, it says on its instructions to call intensively for an hour for bears using a fawn distress call
