A vision of things to come.

Here's what we get--and what we deserve--if Republicans and independent voters who value their 2nd Amendment rights fail to get behind an ELECTABLE candidate for President.

Make no mistake about it. Hillary is not even a declared candidate yet, but she has a commanding 70/30 lead over event the highest polling candidate in the long list of Republican possibilities.

Now some of you may say, "The president is irrelevant if Congress can be turned to all Republican control." There's some truth to that. However... First, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, oh what a party we'd have. In other words, it hasn't happened yet the second point is that even if it does, it could be easily reversed because the majority wouldn't be a large one.

It's time to quit the inner-party, inner-conservative bickering and get off the sideline to win one.

How much clearer of a statement do you need? Hillary wants your guns banned and confiscated. She wants all of them. And she wants them banned NOW.

I, for one, will not sit back and engage in "more conservative than thou" hairsplitting. We don't need the "most" conservative. Whatever that is. We need a WINNER.

Gun rights advocates--and that should be ALL of us--need to realize what a threat Hillary is and make sure that President Hillary doesn't happen.

Keep in mind, of the last 5 presidents, four has managed to gain a second term. The advantage of being the incumbent is HUGE and has become larger with the massive amounts of Hollywierd money pouring into politics.

So to allow Hillary in, would be followed by a HIGHLY PROBABLE Hillary re-election. That would mean 16 years of Obama/Hillary anti-gun policies.

We can't get fixated on the red meat that jacks up the base. We need middle-voter-winning policies that say the Republicans have a vision that makes America better and not just for a % of the already-wealthy.

If you love your guns and your Constitution, you do everything you can to make sure Hillary gets sent packing. That includes a deep examination of your principles versus your bests interests. A principled loser is still a LOSER. The people who WIN the next election will be the ones who understand how to get the best deal for their best interests.

she was supposed to be unbeatable in 2008, but then an unknown named obama did just that.

I'm not too worried by her right now, the early front runners never end up taking the primaries. First time for anything, I suppose, but there are also the facts that she's getting pretty old & has already had one stroke, her health may not be up to it.

But I think this is more about who the media wants than who anyone else is interested in. A manufactured front runner status, created for someone who isn't even running yet.

the scary part is that there is no candidate on our side that really shines. a few that are good, but no clear leader.

i just hope the RNC does not try to ram another "moderate" down our throats again! it will not work, just like the last 2 times they did it.

I agree with you 6724, but I don't recall most people even knowing Ronald Reagan's name in 1978 yet. As much as I hate the thought, I believe if the RNC DOESN'T promote a moderate, or at least something appearing as such (an unknown, similar to Reagan or Obama so far as known history), the ever-growing majority of "moderates" may go liberal again. I hope I'm wrong.

Chris Christie was the only hope for republicans. Since the bridge thing looks like republicans are just SOL. The only chance is with a moderate candidate to get some of the moderate and women voters. People like Cruz just alienate anyone left of the Tea Party.

if christie was our best hope, we are screwed.

if in 2012 we had had a true conservative we would be in a different position. somewhere between 3 and 4 MILLION fewer republicans voted in '12 than '08. if those people had voted, romney would have won. many republicans did NOT vote at all because they were fed up with the RNC fielding moderate (RINO) candidates.

conservatives can and DO win. the mindset in the country is more conservative than it has been in a long time. people are fed up with big government (not according to the libs and the media). a moderate candidate like Mccain or Romney, or Jeb Bush will NOT win, we have seen that too many times. the left will NEVER vote for a republican, no matter how liberal he is! we need our conservative base far more than the so called moderates.

The hildabeast is hostile to our guns. Not news.

So is the democratic party as a whole. Look around the country, every where we're under attack, it's 99% the dems doing it.

Every time a moderate was the GOP choice, it was the losing choice. We need a constitutional conservative.

I can't agree with the statement that millions fewer "Republicans" voted in the last election. I think the more correct phrase is that million fewer Independent voters voted Republican.

Aye, as they say, therein lies the rub.

Look, here's the deal. There's a basic reality that's knockin' at the door here: You CANNOT, repeat CAN NOT win a presidential election by carrying your party base. You must, must, must have a platform and a vision that attracts LARGE numbers of swing voters and Independents.

Now my friends, this is reality. If you cannot accept reality, you need to seek out a mental health professional and receive treatment. Reality is what it is--real.

I'm not sure Christie can win anymore after the bridge scandal, but that's still TBD. A week is a long time in politics and 2 years is FOREVER. Bush is tainted by association. Rubio doesn't yet have the profile or the broad support, but he could be a real lifeline to several much-needed voter groups that are turned off by the old, white, and all male Old Republican Party. Ryan has a geeked-out policy wonk image problem.

However... There's a winning combination here somewhere. Ryan/Rubio? Christie/Rubio? Rubio/Jindal? Or maybe we see Mike Huckabee back as the candidate he could have been last time?

Anyone who's a Second Amendment supporter had better be able to get behind any of the above (or another yet to emerge) to defeat Hillary. Hillary and her Hollyweird and NE Blue Blood Liberal friends are coming to take away guns. That much is fact.

We cannot, as a country, afford 8 years of Hillary where anti-gun laws will be enacted early and often.

Hillary knows that the best strategy for ramming through gun laws is to enact massive restrictions early in the first term, so they won't be "news" when the re-election comes around. We cannot afford to take a "wait and see" attitude when it comes to beating Hillary.

I really don't want christie being the man to defend our 2nd amendment rights, as he's already made it clear that he won't.

he lost me once he jumped on the "let's ban assault rifles" band wagon.

He may not defend those rights, but there's no doubt that he'd be a far less aggressive gun grabber than the 'beast. Like Grouse says, she will be gunning for us, pun intended. We've got to put someone out there who will get the votes required to win, and a hard-core conservative (I can't believe I'm about to say this...) isn't going to do that. There just aren't enough of us good ol' boys left out there to elect a staunch Republican. It ain't gonna happen, no matter how much people are fed up with the whacked out libdems. They'll still swing the lever that way when faced with a choice between one of them and a strict interpreter of the Constitution. Americans, despite what some claim, want their big(ish) government. They want to be looked after, taken care of, fed when they're hungry, clothed when they're cold, and housed when they're homeless. We've allowed the liberal-run educational system to teach our kids that it's society's responsibility to look out for the "less fortunate" for so long that over half actually believe it's their fault folks are down on their luck and "need" food stamps. Between the takers, their enablers, and their sympathizers, we don't stand a chance unless we front someone with broad-based appeal - and that ain't Rand Paul or another TEA Partier. I wish it wasn't so, but it is. Stamping our feet and refusing to vote for someone like Romney will only be shooting ourselves in the proverbial foot, again, pun intended.

go ahead, nominate another moderate. see where that gets us. i guarantee, it gets us Hillary!

Jeb Bush, does not have a chance, nor does Romney, nor McCain, nor Christie, nor any other RINO. Rubio will give us amnesty, but that will NOT give us the latino vote.

Romney got 4 million or so fewer votes than McCain, i cannot find the stats for how many of those were registered republicans, but it is NOT zero. many people were fed up with another moderate that was just democrat light. many people that i talk to say that they will just not vote if it is another moderate!

dole, moderate
mccain, moderate
romney, moderate

I'm not seeing a streak of wins here.

bush43 wasn't very conservative either, but I think people were so sick of the dems by then that it was just enough for him to squeak past gore.

Ever ask if it's because they weren't moderate enough?

Don't get me wrong, I hated having to vote for McCain and Romney, but that's who ran. I don't want to vote for Jeb or Chris or Marco, but I will if it means one less vote for the 'beast (not that it matters in this blue state anyway).

Point out one good solid Republican candidate, who is both conservative and has broad-based appeal and we might have something. Until then, we don't have much of a way to compete. How do you run against Santa Claus? A strong conservative will not win the White House. I know that's a harsh prediction, and I really hope I get to eat it in a couple years, but I doubt I will. Americans don't want strict constructionism any more. The majority seems to want a social democracy like Germany. The future of our republic is short.

Just a thought to chew on - FWIW - historically, we only have a high-50-something percentile eligible voter turnout for general presidential elections. Remember, one third of the Senate AND all of the House is up for vote at the same time. Plus, judges, local folks, etc. Something controversial may just get the rest involved. Apparently, the turn to truer Socialism isn't enough?!?!?!?

For those of you that haven't had your primaries yet, these are easily JUST AS IMPORTANT!!!! Remember, an Obama, Sonya Sotomayor, Harry Reid, Pelosi, etc. had to win a bunch of primaries to get to be the pain in the butt/Communists to this Constitutional Republic that they currently are. John Conyers in MI just found out he didn't make it thru the petition process for the primaries!!! He'll whine and he'll cry, but it appears he's toast now! One by one, these liberals are killing their own agenda politically. Apparently, we had to be pushed to this point to START to push back as a whole?????
