Picked up my new savage 223 friday so i loaded up some test rounds with varget and nosler 80 grainers.I started at 22.5 grains and went up to 25 with no pressure signs .Looks like the accuracy node came in at 23.8 grains and groups began to open back up at 24.4 grains so i will stay in that range .I loaded OAL to mag length at 2.450 .
I also shot some hornady 75's i had loaded for my 700 remington and they looked good as well with 24.4 varget @ 2.30 OAL.I had some factory 55 grain ammo that i sighted in with and it shot those good as well so i will load some and see how tight i can get it to group with those too.
This is my first savage center-fire rifle ,always been a rem fan but this savage will be my new long range toy to play with this summer .If you have any load info that might work with this rifle post it up and i will update as i try out more bullets and powder.

Looks pretty good.

Here's a little hint that helped me in the last couple years on my load work. Still using the cardboard box as the background but making the aiming point out of two pieces of inch wide green masking tape. Just make a t shape. You won't believe how much easier it is to keep a precise hold. Those two little strips give you 4 aiming points( the right angles where the tape intersects).

I only went below 1/2 moa once before that and now I'm mad if I'm not. Fun seeing

I have a Savage LRP 1/7 223. It loves Varget and 80gr Bergers. Five shot groups are all touching from 20gr-22gr. Almost one hole with 20gr and a larger ragged hole with 22gr. I chose the 22gr for the extra speed. When I loaded higher than 22gr the group really opened up, but it wasn't maxed out yet. I might try and max it out to see if it will come back together to gain some more velocity, but it is really shooting good now. It likes 21.5gr of RL15 with the 75gr Amax which is also a slower load, but will put 5 shots into a ragged hole.

Had some time this eve so i did some measuring and the savage has a shorter jump to the lands than my 700 rem tactical. Those nosler 80's i shot were around jammed into the lands pretty deep, from my OAL test i did tonight they hit the lands at 2.40
Gonna have to start from scratch
