What are Porcupines Worth?

I caught a porcupine adn doubt the furbuyer will buy it but there is a local jewel/crafts maker that will buy it for the quills. What is the going price for a whole porcupine 20 to 25 pounds- i see there is a market for quills and guard hair.

Western porkies with good hair are worth about $8 on the carcass OR with some work you can get $25/oz for the long yellow tipped guard hair (5"+ in length) $3 for adult skulls and $5/oz for the quills. I average close to 30 for adults.

25lbs is a big porkie.

They use the hair for a couple of things. But most of it goes into indian head roachs (below) used in pow wow danceing.

whole frozen porkies sold from 5-30 this week at colorado fur auction.

An old timer once advised me to never kill a porky just to kill it, because they can be harvested easily and eaten to survive being lost in the wilds of Pennsylvania. Well, there are no more wilds in PA in these parts (NC PA), every hill seems to have a logging or gas drilling road on it.
