Berger .172" 30gr....

I emailed Berger about the 30gr 17 bullets and this is what I got. Some may have seen this in the past.

Hi Tim,

I hope 2014 is going well for you so far! Unfortunately, the 17cal 30gr BT are discontinued and the real issue is the fact that we no longer make the jacket 172030T that goes with that discontinued bullet. Typically, to make a jacket and bullet that is discontinued, we require a minimum order of 100,000. I am not sure how many exactly you and a few guys were looking to buy, as I know 100,000 is quite a lot. We apologize about the discontinuance of the 30gr BT varmint bullet. However, we still offer the 17cal 25gr FB Varmint bullet.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Kind Regards,

Dan, It's not Cassies fault or attitude, more like the guy running the show at Berger. They don't care or won't run a small batch or any for that matter, of the 30gr bullets or the jackets for others to make bullets. The bottom line is the 17 shooters don't count !

Hornday pulled the same crap on the Amax shooters. They can make more $ on other bullets that average joe wants.

it's just the market forces brought on by the current political situation.

I read the letter to mean we need a P.M. group buy, like what they are doing with the .204 55.
put me down for 2000, now we only 49 more people like me and we have an order. lol

P.S. send me the information of where to send the money.

I don't know for sure but I think it will cost about $260/1000. I also think we should keep the orders to 1000/person minimum to make keeping track of everyone easier.

First off, when Walt Berger sold the company it started going in a different direction. Now they seem to have showed their hand toward the small caliber shooters. For me it is a matter of principle. For those wanting a bullet built as well as the Berger and made by shooters like us, then why not buy from the independent bullet makers. There are still some building a quality bullet every bit as good as Bergers. Heck, most of know that Chan Nagels were better quality than Bergers, so that is the direction I plan on going. I have no interest in "graveling in the crumbs from the masters table" as it is said.

I'm with K22. I talked to Chan's wife around 6 weeks ago and she said they are optimistic that they will be back up and running in around a year. I have enough to last me a year or two so once Chan gets back up and running, I will get a lifetime supply and be done with it. I bought one box on the 25gr Berger group buy to be on the safe side, but Berger is really working us over at $60 or more a box.

Seems to me that quite a few people have called and e-mailed Berger looking for .17 bullets, and J4 jackets. Are these guys blind? If someone knocks on my door wanting to spend money, I'll listen to what they have to say. If several people knock on my door wanting to spend money, I'll grab my tools and get to work!

Yep as soon as Chan is making bullets again I'm ordering 10,000 and never have to worry again. Until then I have 1200 or so kindlers to scrape by on.

Hence the reason why I think we should be kicking down Hornadys door for a 30gr 17 cal bullet.

I'm gonna call them today.

Hornady, Nosler, Sierra.... There is a growing market for these items. Hornady legitimized the .17AH ( kinda ), how long before someone markets a hotrod .17?

Surely these companies can see that the 17 is the "now" thing.

A group buy was just done on saubier for 25 gr bullets. I think price was something like $66.00 for 200. Personally, I say screw berger. We should appeal to hornady and nosler. If it weren't for them there would be little for small caliber shooters.
