Any body got a good load worked up with this combo? I am working with hornady match brass.
I did a load test today at 250 yards with two strings of eight shots each and have three potential loads to work with.

43 RL-15 #5
44 RL-15 #7
all look pretty good, guess i need to load up more and run them over a chrony.

Interesting to see this topic. I just ran the same test last week trying to work up the same load. I too used hornady match brass, RE-15 and 175 SMK's. I had fully match prepped brass and shot through remington 700 AAC-SD. I found my accuracy node to be between 41 and 43gr. I took it from 36 up to 45gr.

Sierra suggests 41.3gr so I don't feel I was that far off however with the hogue overmold, the barrel isn't truly floated. I should have my Manners In hand in a couple weeks and I'm going to run another ladder test.

My AAC-SD is a great shooter but i added a brake and a recoil pad to my H/S precision stock.
It shoots 150 grain hotcore very well too.

Sounds about right. I've found my load using RE15 pushing a 168 gr HPBT to be right at 42 grs using either Lapua brass or Lake City Match. I've also tested using IMR 4895 and Varget and they are only a tenth or two off from the 42 gr load. Sierra recommends the 175's when you go above 300 yds for better accuracy and tighter groups. Guess ya just gotta test and see what your baby likes better.

I shoot the M118lr clones in my shilen barreled 700p
LCLR 07 brass
Fed 210m
42.8 RL 15
175smk. ..2.81-2 Coal
Very accurate load gettin 2625fps from 22"..u will find the node between 42.5 and 43.5 ...the origional load was 44.3 grains...due to the high temps in the middle east...causing op rod failures in the m14...so they (ATK) reduced the charge..rl series powders are a little tempremental in wide temp swings....about 1.2 fps per degree of temp change..btw...I have not loaded the original loading of M118lr.......as always follow safe reloading practices...

Nodes do NOT live between two powder weights - the vibrations of a barrel vary because of length, thickness, weight, and contour - it is never predictable.

You can only find it the old fashioned way...

Where do they live???.......how is it federal gold medal match ammo shoots so well over a wide array of platforms??

It is easy to make accurate 308 match ammo.

There are many rifles that don't shoot Fed GM very well - but they shoot Other match better.

I make 308 match and sell it commercially - it shoots very in all sorts of rifles (and maybe a few platforms too

)

I don't use any "nodes" at all.

I loaded up a few more test rounds but had a few that wouldnt chamber,i didnt bump the shoulder enough. Of the ones i managed to test 42 RL15 looked best with a 175 SMK in my gun at 250 yards.
