Whatever gets it done...eh Charlie.

I ran the 30g Kindler Gold exclusively all season in the 17/204.
For the most part, it's done an acceptable job, but I have had a few blow ups. Usually, my fault on shot placement though.

HeHe,,,, yep.
Truth is, I get allot more with traps and Dogs, but I get lucky with the call once in a while.
The first one (with the lever) gun was called,,,, as were these.

Sorry,,, looks like I'm the one gloating now.

Don't know why, but those cats look like they have huge pads. Wish they'd open a season on cats here in Illinois. I have called a few in the past ... stinks having to let them walk.

Tim,
I gathered parts all last summer while Dan did the barrel work and I finally got it all together and dialed in about the last of September. This was it's first season.
I really like the "blueprint" and I'll probably build another one like it sometime.

Only four of em are from this year but yea,,,, I'm pretty optimistic concidering what some are claiming.
Our season's over and my fur buyer will be back in town next week so we'll see.

Back on topic, I don't own one of the "big 17's" but I have to think they're death on Coyotes.
I've yet to see one get up and shake off a well placed bullet from my 17FB,,,,,
noname040.jpg

or my 17Rem.

I don't hunt Coyotes very often any more so I get along fine with these two, but if I were chasing Coyotes hard in the high desert like I did 20 years ago,, I'd be all over one of those 17/204's.

Anywhoooo,,, wish me luck at the fur sale.
(I've even got a handfull of Coyotes to sell believe it or not.

I just chronoed my KHornet over 3900 with a 20gr. I will be around 4100 with a 15gr. What kind of speeds are you guys getting out of your big 17's? Is it worth the barrel life?

It isn't really about the ultra fast speeds...
It's more about being able to push the 30's to the same speed as the 17 Rem pushes the 25's.
I'm just over 4100 with the 30's in the 17/204, but I'll probably back it down a little when I have time for some load work.

That's it in a nut shell!
I've always tried to run 25's as close to 4000 as possible in my 17Rem's.

ShortDraw,, when you say---" I just chronoed my KHornet over 3900 with a 20gr. I will be around 4100 with a 15gr."---are you referring to the 17HH/AH?

My 17AH holds just a tich more powder than the HH and it's really rough on primer pockets when I get up around 3900 with 20's. I run em at a safe and comfortable 3650, but I don't shoot predators with it either.

Too many [beeep] 17/204 goodness in this thread. I have everything ordered to end up with a 17 rem in the end. I could change now but then have to search for brass. Think I'll stick with the 17 rem and enjoy the low recoil and not too far distance shots offered in middle east MN.

......still pondering though.

It's an online hunting contest at The NPHA forum. For every two week period, a playing card is assigned and all pics have to be taken with that card to qualify for points. It's just for fun.
