OFF the LANDS

Do yourself a favor and get the Hornady Overall Length Check Gage, the appropriate modified case, a comparator and a set of calipers. Don't be surprised to buy all the "stuff" only to find your off-the-shlef gun has a mile long leade. It's becoming more common.

I'm assuming this going to be a hunting rifle so all my load work on a hunting rifle I start with max mag length that will run reliably in the rifle. I completely toss kissing the lands notion, mainly because it's virtually impossible to do so in a 700 using the factory mag set up.

I shot 39gr. Blitz Kings in front of 28.5 grains of Win 748 and a Rem 7 1/2 primer. My OAL was 2.380. Almost a .100 jump. Seemed the closer I was to touching, the worse it shot. I tried several different bullets in my Rem XR-100 and all liked a big jump. The BK load shot itty bitty groups at 100yds.
