Best powder for 204 ruger???

27.8 grains of IMR 4895 with a 40 grain Hornady V-Max produces 5 shot groups at 500 yards that can be covered with a pop can, on a calm day. Velocity of 3950 fps.

Been trying CFE223 and Barnes 26 grain varmint grenades lately with exceptional velocities of over 4400 fps.

seems like IMR 4895 is a good all around powder.

I wouldn't have thought it was being used for the 204... Hmmm.... Interesting.

It's accurate in my 243

My Savage 16 likes RL-10x for 39 gr. Sierra Blitzkings, and
H4895 for 35 gr. Bergers. Tiny little groups, Pdogs flying
through the air.

Ive been using h335, but just ordered some Alliant varmint to try.

The h335 has shot well in my load work ups so i am hoping to get similar or better results with the varmint.

Benchmark is tops. Reloader 10x was pretty good also. that's covering 35 bergers & 39 Blitzkings in 2 different rifles, and Reloader 10x was used in a 3rd gun type that only seemed to like the 32gr'ers.

My rifle likes Benchmark over 39 grain SBK's, and H4895 over 40 grain Bergers. I've used nothing but Bergers for the last three years! Both of these combinations gave the best groups at the highest velocities of any of a dozen other combinations that I tried!

CFE 223 and BL-C(2) both perform great out of my .204's. Out of my 1/12 twist I like the 32 vmax or 35 Berger and in 1/10 the 40s are the $$$$. Just got some Nosler 40s and haven't tried em yet....

Passmore

Mine shoots the berger 40's with H4895 really well. It just doesn't meter very well. So I swithed to H322 and it seems to like this as well.
