And how many "southern cats" have you killed? Anything will work put the bullet in the right spot! I'll stick with 50yd. shots on our small "southern cats"and keep using the 22 magnum and CCI 30gr. V-max or Hornady v-max same stuff!

Last 2 bobcats I shot 1 at 10 steps the other at 15 steps!Don't need much of a cartridge for that kinda shootin!Treed coons 22 lr works just tree a bobcat 22 lr.down here you get over a 50yd shot on cats you doin something!

Your question is pretty open ended.

How good of a shot are you? How disciplined are you in not taking questionable shots? What about distance? Reload or retail ammo? Saving fur or not? Do you typically hunt/ shoot with farm houses nearby or way out in the middle of no where?

I personally would not go smaller than either 20 tactical or 204 ruger for coyotes. Both may be a bit on the large size for fox. especially if planning on saving fur.

Just about anything will work in one scenario or another.
