Quote:MAKE THE LIE BIG…(AND) KEEP SAYING IT…

By J.D. Zumwalt,
in National, Opinion

Some of the most charismatic leaders of all time would be very much at home in the environment of today’s politics. I want to be careful here; I don’t want you to accuse me of comparing our leaders with past villains. Still – I am curious what names will come to your mind if you read this. This writing did not require much skill. It is largely comprised of quotes. I hope you will read them.

Adolf Hitler: “Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.”

The truth doesn’t seem to matter much these days when it comes to elections, affairs of state or economics. Our leaders have discovered that we will believe anything they tell us. Hitler also said, “What good fortune for governments that the people do not think.” I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with having to dig thru the internet in an attempt to figure out which politician is telling the whole truth.

Joseph Stalin, “The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”

We live in a time in which there is much reason to question the accuracy of the ballot box. Even when no foul play is suspected, we spend time glued to the television watching some nitwit decide if a hanging chad should count or not count. In the year 2013, we still can’t figure out how to have an election and utter these words, “Well, at least we know it was honest.”

Don’t forget, there are lots of ways to cheat in an election. Vote buying, intentional misinformation, ridiculously and purposely confusing ballots, ballot stuffing, destruction of votes and misreporting of votes are just a few that all of us believe have occurred in recent history.

Saddam Hussein, “The gun and the language of the gun must end.”

No dictator ever wanted an armed populace. I won’t bother to list all the oppressive governments that decided to take guns away from the people. There are those in our nation who would be delighted if they were able to take away our guns. The debate rages – I don’t care to get into it at the moment except to point out something we often miss.

The Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. The second amendment does not mention deer hunting. It simply states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

You can debate “well regulated militia” all you want – But there is NO room for debate on the words, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Those words were put there so that we could protect ourselves from oppression. How do I know? I know because George Washington said, “Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.”

If that doesn’t convince you, read the words of James Madison, “The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms”. Next time you hear someone say you don’t need a thirty round magazine to hunt deer, remember what the second amendment actually says.

Benito Mussolini, “It is the State which educates its citizens in civic virtue, gives them a consciousness of their mission and welds them into unity.”

There was a time in our great nation when we made up our own minds as to what was right and what was wrong. We made these decisions based upon values we learned from our parents and – Yes – The Holy Bible. We were not afraid to pray in public. There were men in those days that acted like men and were not afraid to stand up for values. Little by little we are allowing the state to dictate morality to us.

Nikita Khrushchev, “The press is our chief ideological weapon.”

Do you remember the days when persons appeared on 60 Minutes in order to get to the bottom of things and not for a love fest? Thank God for the very few objective news outlets. Napoleon Bonaparte, “Four hostile newspapers are more to be feared than a thousand bayonets.” Rule number one and two for dictators has always been control the press and take weapons from the people.

Mikhail Gorbachev, “Jesus was the first socialist, the first to seek a better life for mankind.”

When did we decide capitalism was a bad thing? When did our leaders – And more importantly, our citizens – Start believing that if you work hard and make money you should have to give the money to people who don’t work at all? Mr. Gorbachev and many of our current leaders want you to believe that you are in compliance with moral guidelines when you give deadbeats something for nothing. As a result of this, the working people of this nation are giving up over half their wages to support socialist ideas.

You want a better life for mankind? Put them to work EARNING a better life. Congressman Davy Crockett: “We have the right as individuals to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money. Give your money away Congress – Not mine!”

Barack Obama, “We have an obligation and a responsibility to be investing in our students and our schools. We must make sure that people who have the grades, the desire and the will, but not the money, can still get the best education possible.”

This quote sounds wonderful if you don’t pay close attention. I would rather see these words, “If you want a college education, YOU exercise some PERSONAL responsibility and get a job and EARN the money for a degree. I owe you nothing.”

When, oh when, did we quit taking responsibility for our own actions? Albert Schweitzer said it much better than I: “Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will – his personal responsibility in the realm of faith and morals.”

Finally – I want to discuss the Constitution. Don’t allow our politicians to mess with it. Don’t allow them to act like it is no longer relevant. We are hearing dangerous talk these days. Ways of “Getting Around” the Constitution. That talk should not be accepted.

“Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution. That must be maintained, for it is the only safeguard of our liberties.” Abraham Lincoln

“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln

“All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution or Confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation”. John Adams

Please allow me to end with wise words spoken by our President – A while ago, AND a quote by Napoleon I think you should keep in mind:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I, therefore, intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt.” Barack Obama. Read that again and then refer to the very first quote.

“Power is my mistress. I have worked too hard at her conquest to allow anyone to take her away from me.” Napoleon Bonaparte
