Best brass to form 6.5-06?

There is a lot of options on this 25-06,270 and 30-06. Any differences? Witch one would be the best to use to form the 6.5-06...

Thanks, Jason

I've formed a lot from .30-06 brass, and it works very well for me. The .30-06 brass is easy to find, and Lapua makes brass in that flavor if that matters to you. A couple of guys on another forum both told me that they just buy .25-06 brass, seat a 6.5mm boattail bullet in it, load and shoot - no necking up or down! I guess that would work, but I don't have any .25-06 brass.

Looks like 25-06 is the easiest.

When you do 30-06 can you just go through the 6.5-06 die or do you need to step it down with a bushing die?

You should step with a 270 first, but just running 30-06 through a 6.5 die will work fine. I have ran a ton of 30-06 down to 25-06 no step. Just don't get in a hurry and go slow.

Well, It would help to know the neck dia in your chamber.

25/06 brass will get a little thinner

270 and 30/06 will get a little thicker

Winchester brass is tougher than Rem, Federal is crap

If you can find any, PMC is tougher than them all and the quality is simply outstanding!

For the very best accuracy, playing with neck tension with bushing dies may pay HUGE dividends.

129g Hornady Flat base sp is a whale of a bullet in this case if you like putting a 4" hole throuigh large bucks.

The one I didn't have a rifle for. I have a .30-06 and a .25-06, so I form .25-06 brass from .270 Win so I will have two distinct head stamps. My shooting buddies who have .270s save me their brass. I know I didn't mention 6.5-06, but you see what I am getting at. If I didn't own a rifle in anything but 6.5-06, I would still use .270. I prefer necking down to necking up.

Here is what I got. I couldn't pass up the deal. But I had to let a gun go to get this(Ruger .243). I need another bolt gun for my suppressor that's coming and this one is allready threaded. I am not sure the neck diameter. But here is the skinny of what I know about it.

Broughton Barrel 24 inch with break(looks like Vias)
Aftermarket 3/8 thick recoil lug (its tapered like a triangle)
Rem 700 action ADL
HS stock
Bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16x 40
