i am priming up lapus brass as i type. i plan on shooting some sierra 52g hpbt to start. i see imr4198 and h4198 as the most popular powders but i have a fresh 8lb jug of cfe223. has anyone had any results with cfe223 in a 222remington

No personal experience, but do a search on here for CFE 223 - one of the guys here was getting well under advertised velocities with it.

Looking back at some old reloading notes, looked like I got up to 20.5 of IMR-4198 with the Sierra 52 HPBT in my 222 rem, using Rem 7 1/2 BR primers and seated at 2.125" COL. Be careful though and work up to this load because my notes say that 20.4 was the published "max load" for this combo at the time.

20.0 of IMR-4198 with a 50 Speer TNT (and Rem 7 1/2's at 2.125" again) was another excellent load. 20.0 was max load at the time as I recall, and rated at about 3,257fps.

50 Sierra BK's right at book max was another good one.
(I couldn't get 50 V-MAX's to group worth a darn over 3,000.)

My favorite though, and the one I'm shooting currently is:

21.0 of IMR-4198
Hornady 40gr V-MAX bullet
CCI 400 Small Rifle Primers
2.130" COL
3,300 fps out of an old '79 Rem700 BDL

(using Hornady brass, where I had a bunch of this saved up from days of buying Hornady Custom Ammo 50gr V-MAX Moly's).

I tried lots of other powders... BL-C2, H335, etc., but always came back to IMR-4198 for the 222.

Kyle,
You might try imr-4895. I have a remington bdl in 222that shoots way better than i can with imr-4895 and a 52 gr hornady bthp match. And it will shoot almost the same with the sierra mk

The CFE shot really well but it was way under in my 223. It claimed like 3650 and I was only getting 3079 and 3222 in my 223 with 28.5gr and a 40 gr varmagedeon
