For those Lightforce fans we thought we would share a couple pictures we took today of their newest model – The Pred9x for night hunting.

Lightforce was nice enough to send us one to check out and allow us to take some pictures, but some of the details are still not releaseable. Our understanding is they will debut the new model at or near the Shot Show in January time frame. We are expecting shipments the first week or 2nd week of January.

Just in case you are thinking of pulling the trigger on a new weapon mounted Lightforce 170 for Christmas, we thought you may be interested know that this is about to officially release.

A few features:
- Operates on two Li-Ion 18650 batteries (included)
- Push button “On/Off” and CORDLESS remote push button "On/Off” (attachable to fore grip of weapon)
- Single Led light (not bulbs)
- Two light power settings (high/low)
- Red and green filters (included)
- Charger included
- Nice carry and storage bag included
- Scope mount included (1 inch or 30mm tubes)
more info coming in the future...

Here's some more info.

It has what looks like a large oversized smooth reflector. It runs on 2 18650 or 7.4 volts, twice what most guys are using now with a single 18650. The write up says medium range hunting light. You can only push an LED so far. Then you add a filter and you're going to cut that light way down. To me it's just Lightforces attempt to eliminate the heavy battery. I'd like to see one but, I think they missed the boat not putting a red LED in it???

-Weight with batteries: 14.3oz
-Retail Price approx $294.00
-Manufacturer says "...light beam that gives visibility more than 180m away..."
-We have not hunted with it as of yet so no range estimates from APC

To put some numbers on this I took a white LED Skyray 1JC8 I used to hunt with that came in at 28000 lux white light at 1 meter. I then added a rosco filter (#19 Fire) and it measured 4500 lux, an 84% reduction in transmitted light. With the same filter the Lightforce would have to generate 62000 lux equal the $15 Skyray at 4500 lux. To come in at 9000-10000 lux where the XLR250 and Nighteyes are the Lightforce would have to double that 62000 lux when a filter is added.
