Foxpro TX 24 remote issue

My Foxpro TX 24 remote wont work beyond 5 feet of the caller with new batteries in both the unit or the remote, its out of warranty and was wondering if now I have to junk it or if there is something else I can try, been a great backup unit to my mouth calls for year and half until now. Dont want to pay to have Foxpro fix it since repair probably be waste of money that I could use on a new model. Anyy suggestions or ideas appreciated

The local tech guru / kid at radio shack got me going again and didnt charge..Im good
