douglas ground squirrel here in ca

last weekend on a camping trip there were tons of these little suckers running through camp. they seem like they would be fun with a scoped 10/22 or something similar. does anyone here hunt then or even know if its legal?

Where exactly do you live? Do you live out near the middle of no where just south of the Oregon border?

Douglas Squirrel is not really a Ground Squirrel, it's a Tree Squirrel ( Tamiasciurus douglasii) "Pine Squirrel""Chickaree". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Range; southwestern British Columbia, western Washington state, western Oregon and northern California. A ground Squirrel is fair game, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif there is a season on Gray Squirrels. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'd check with the F&G. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Good Hunting.
 
They are actually protected here in Oregon which leads me to think that they are probably protected in Cali as well.
