I am looking at trading for a 204 ar with a 24 inch heavy barrel.Other than the weight are there any drawbacks to hunting with a 24 inch barrel? Give me your thoughts good or bad idea.

Depends on the application. Bench varmint hunting, no prob. Having to carry it very far, to heavy. If you are hunting tight cover the longer barrel may be harder to swing.

lots of guys seem to prefer shorter barrels, but my .204 not only had a 23" barrel plus D-Tech comp. on the end, now I took the comp. off and added a 7" suppressor, and it works just fine for me.

If you should shoot at moving/running targets, the heavier barrel will help you with follow through. And a longer barrel will help get the muzzle blast away from ya, just a little more. Also, you get the better performace of the caliber with the longer muzzle.
